Online Marketing - Where to Focus for Improved Sales Conversion Rates?
The bottom line is, if you're focused in on one intangible product, have tested to find higher than average sales conversion rates, or if you're selling a hard good that will be delivered in person, after the order is placed online, you'll want to focus on making the sale.
Think of Amazon - each page of the site is focused on selling you an item. If you buy lots of items, great. But they know they'll get your data when you make the sale and that their conversion rate is high. So, since you're likely to make another purchase one day, it's all about getting you into their sales database.
True, there are some Amazon newsletters, and a lot of community features being added to the site. But they focus on making this sale over anything else.
If you have a brand new product, and you haven't built your backend product for some reason (as happens when you might stumble on an incredible idea that you act on very quickly), then you'll likely want to build your list from buyers anyway. So you'd start your list with the successful sales, or with people who filled out the form during a pop-up on exit.
You still want their email address. You just aren't prioritizing it, in this case, over getting a sale.
This is not often the case in internet marketing, but can sometimes apply when you're using internet marketing concepts to market to an online niche. Next, where to focus for Improved Subscriber Conversion.

I think Blogs are definitely one of the best tools to develop a relationship with your readers and to get your messages delivered.
My mailbox is so clogged up (unfortunately mostly with junk) that I read only a tiny percentage of my meails. However, I have ~10 great blogs (like yours Ewen ;-) ) which I read pretty much every day - word-by-word.
